Ethiopia, Eritrea To Attend Peace Summit In Jeddah

The signing ceremony will be hosted by Saudi King Salman in the city of Jeddah.

Addis Ababa, September 15, 2018 (FBC) – Ethiopian and Eritrean leaders will attend a summit in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to sign an agreement cementing the relations between the two countries.

According to Farhan Haq, UN spokesperson, the signing ceremony will be hosted by Saudi King Salman in the city of Jeddah.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, are also expected to attend the summit.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki signed a declaration of peace in July that formally ended a two-decade standoff and restored diplomatic relations.

On Tuesday, Ethiopia and Eritrea reopened two land border crossing points for the first time in 20 years, clearing the way for trade between the two nations.


PM Dr Abiy Arrives In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Addis Ababa, September 15, 2018 (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia upon the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to attend a tripartite summit.

The Summit is organized following the historic peace deal between Ethiopia and Eritrea, according to Fitsum Arega, Chief of Staff at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The summit aims to discuss on peace and developing the region, he said on Twitter.
