On May 19, Eritrean President Isaias concluded his visit to Sichuan and also ended his six-day visit to China. He led a delegation to leave the country by plane from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

Where did Isaias go during his 3-day visit to Sichuan? What cooperation do you hope to foster? On the evening of May 18, he was interviewed by reporters in Chengdu.

Hope to strengthen cooperation in fields such as energy and agriculture

When I came to Sichuan, what content did Isaias pay the most attention to? The answer to this question can be found from the point of his visit.

During his stay in Sichuan, Isaias went to Sanxingdui Museum, Chengdu Fengke Biotechnology Co., Ltd., China Dongfang Electric Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as Dongfang Electric), Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project, Dujiangyan Base of China Giant Panda Conservation Research Center, Shudao Investment Group Co., Ltd. Responsible company (referred to as Shudao Group) and other places to visit and investigate.

In an interview, Isaias showed a strong interest in strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, and infrastructure construction. In Dongfang Electric, he mentioned that Ertria has abundant wind and solar resources, especially geothermal resources. Eritrea very much hopes to further develop its own energy industry.

In Chengdu Fengke Biotechnology Co., Ltd., he learned about the research and development, cultivation and processing technology of edible and medicinal fungi. Isaias said that the economy of Eritrea is dominated by agriculture, 80% of the population is engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, and there is a great demand for excellent crop planting technologies.

During his trip to Sichuan, he expressed his hope to strengthen key cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, fishery and manufacturing. He also hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in other areas such as education, health, humanities, and technology.

Eritrea and Sichuan have had many years of cooperation and friendship

Isaias visited Sichuan for the first time, and he was full of excitement and amazement about his trip to Sichuan.

"It can be said that the progress you have made is unimaginable." Isaias said that the influence of this kind of progress is not limited to Sichuan or China, but is global. Chinese companies have brought this "progress" to remote areas of the world, effectively shortening the development time of these areas by 10, 20 or even decades. Taking the manufacturing industry as an example, Sichuan's manufacturing and industrial enterprises have met the development needs of many countries in the world and changed the local development.

It is reported that as early as the 1960s and 1970s, Sichuan Road and Bridge, a subsidiary of Shudao Group, actively participated in foreign aid projects in Africa, and established the Sichuan Road and Bridge Asmara Office in Eritrea in 1995, becoming the longest-lasting foreign capital since the founding of Eritrea. The company has successively participated in projects such as the Gatlai Road Project, the Massawa Seawall, and the Asmara Eye Hospital in Eritrea, and has won high praise for "Chinese speed, Chinese quality, Chinese friends, and Chinese spirit". At the same time, Shudao Group is currently investing in the construction of mineral projects with the Eritrean side.

It is this long-term "hand in hand" cooperation that has deepened the friendship between the two parties. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Eritrea on May 24, 1993, bilateral relations have developed steadily. China is Eritrea's largest trading partner and source of investment. In November 2021, China and Eritrea signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road."
