Understanding the Political Win that Might Change American History

28 June 2025, by Eric Zuesse. (All of my recent articles can be seen here.)

As I have made clear in the past, I am skeptical that anything can now be done, at least in the near term, to prevent the U.S. Government from initiating a global nuclear war; and, furthermore, from increasing yet further the nation’s economic inequality (the increasing percentage of America’s wealth that goes to America’s billionaires and decreasing percentage that goes to Americans who are NOT billionaires). However, on June 24th, there was a shocking political win that might conceivably cascade into turning that around (and therefore to achieving what I had concluded is beyond any reasonable hope of being achieved). I wrote about it in June 25th’s “Mamdani’s Win in NYC Transforms America’s Mid-Term Political Contests”. The present article is a follow-up to that one.

The chief response in America to his win has been hostility to it in virtually all of the mainstream press, both Republican and Democratic ‘news’-media, and this includes also in the reader and viewer comments to those ‘news’-reports. The fact is that Mamdani really IS a danger to not ONLY NYC’s billionaires’ continuing to increase their wealth-share at the public’s expense, but even ultimately to ALL billionaires’ doing so; and, consequently, there is NO hope of his receiving donations from those individuals, who account for more than half of all of the money that is donated to political Parties in America — and their ‘news’-media are likewise institutionally opposed to ANY such candidate’s candidacy, and their advertisers (which LIKEWISE are controlled by billionaires) ALSO are and would not advertise in any medium that would be favorable toward such a candidate.

NONETHELESS, he won, and by a landslide (as I explained in that article); and, so, if he is not assassinated first, there are probably enormous changes in the works, and all of the current reporting and public responses to the reporting about this situation have been and are shaped BY those ‘news’-media, and books, and scholarly commentaries, all of which are hugely dependent upon America’s billionaires for their support, which means that on both the right and the left in America, the public have been inculcated to distrust the intentions of, and to oppose, any such candidate. Therefore, I shall close here by linking to some of the actual news-reports that I think fairly present both sides of the public discussion: both Mamdani’s campaigning which won him this nomination, and the left and right-wing efforts to smear him:

* I want to be an outsider to this political contest, so as to consider myself free to pose questions irrespective of whom I favor; and that particular instagram which I asterisked, promises to increase taxes on the very richest of the City’s residents, but it says NOTHING about how, as Mayor, he would deal with a possible resulting exodus of billionaires from New York City. A policymaker must plan and legislate ONLY after having thought through the opponent’s possible moves, farther into the future than the opponents — in this case the exploiters and their hired experts — have planned and prepared themselves to deal with. If Mamdani has not already done this — if he is not a better “chess” player than his enemies are — then he is not a hope for the future, but instead will turn out to be a failure as NYC Mayor, and thus a catastrophe for all progressives. I would not vote in this political contest between him and his Republican opponent if I were a voter there and did not know what Mamdani’s specific plan is to address the problem that I have just stated (he would need to institute huge penalties on ANYONE whose City taxes would thus be raised and who tried to escape the tax-increase by leaving the City); but, if I indeed WERE a New York resident and had to choose between a Mamdani who had not (or might not have) considered this problem, versus a Republican candidate who would be just a reguar Mayor of NYC, then I would vote for the Republican, because I definitely do NOT want a political future in my country to be even MORE depressing than it already IS — one in which there would then be, even more than there has already been, politicians elected as a ‘progressive’ who turn out to be either unwilling or incapable to overcome and defeat their enemies (the billionaires and their agents). Such an outcome would produce outright despair. But today the New York Times headlined “As Donors Work Against Mamdani, Top Democrats Stop Short of Backing Him” and made clear that his enemies are not merely Republican billionaires but Democratic billionaires, and that New York State’s Democratic Governor would prevent Mamdani from raising tases on the City’s super-rich; and, so, this political contest is now CLEARLY between Mamdani and the individuals who currently control the U.S. Government. Is he REALLY capable of taking them on and defeating them?

Investigative historian Eric Zuesse’s latest book, AMERICA’S EMPIRE OF EVIL: Hitler’s Posthumous Victory, and Why the Social Sciences Need to Change, is about how America took over the world after World War II in order to enslave it to U.S.-and-allied billionaires. Their cartels extract the world’s wealth by control of not only their ‘news’ media but the social ‘sciences’ — duping the public.
