CASTELLO. Marató bp Castelló celebrated its fourteenth edition this Sunday and athletes and the public were able to enjoy Castellón running in style. At 9:17 the start of the test was given, which has registered more participants than the previous edition.
The Eritrean Kibrom Ghebrezgiabhier was the first to cross the finish line with a spectacular time of 2:07:25, running the last 10 kilometers alone. He thus achieves the Marató bp Castelló record, which Lemi Dumecha has held since 2020 (2:07:43) and also shatters his personal record. A result that represents the twentieth best world record. The podium was completed by the Kenyan James Kiplagat with a time of 2:15:14 and, close behind him, the Eritrean runner Medhanie Abraham Tesfaghergish in third place, with a time of 2:15:32.
In the women's category, a very high level has also been demonstrated, starting with the race of the Kenyan athlete Dorine Jerop , who suffered a fall at one of the aid stations, but managed to overcome it and continue the race to cross the finish line in 2:29. :39, managing to be first classified and surpassing her personal best.
The second runner to cross the finish line was the Kenyan athlete Irene Jerobon, with a time of 2:30:51 and, closely followed, in third position, the Ethiopian Bizuager Aderra, with a time of 2:31:24. Currently, the test record remains in the hands of Webalem Basaznew, with a mark of 2:27:39 achieved in 2020.
As for the regional classification, the winners of this edition have been, in the male category, Juan Vidal with a time of 2:25:30 and, in the female category, Sheila Simao with a time of 2:53:28. At the local level, the first athletes to reach the finish line were, in the men's category, Guillem Adell , with a time of 2:26:58, and in the women's category, Sandra Cervera , with a time of 3:14:25.
Spanish Master Marathon Championship
Coinciding with the marathon, the Spanish Marathon Master Championship was held , whose first place finisher in the men's category was the Valencian Juan Vidal with a mark of 2:25:30 and in the women's category Verónica Sánchez , with a time of 2:52. :55.
Special mention deserves the runner Alejandra Sánchez Massa , debutant in the 42 kilometer test. a tribute to the runner Alba Cebrián, who died on January 22 and who crossed the finish line as the first Spanish woman to do so, accompanied in the last meters by Alba's father.
The test continues to achieve great results that place it as a sporting reference, both nationally and internationally, proof of this is the conservation of the World Athletics Race Label. The animation in the streets, the care of the runner, the low crowding and a fast and comfortable circuit mean that more and more athletes from all over the world want to participate with the aim of improving their records.
