China and Africa: the unequal relationship that underpins closer ties

Relations between China and Africa are making global headlines as leaders from the continent descend on Beijing for the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Though these summits started 24 years ago, Bhaso Ndzendze argues that Africa hasn’t benefited greatly from them because, unlike China, the continent hasn’t developed a unified strategy to make the relationship work in its favour.

And Lauren Johnston, an expert in China-Africa economic relations, provides insights into the new race for Africa’s ‘green’ minerals and the implications for the continent.

Brazil’s decision to block access to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) after the country’s Supreme Court issued an order banning the site has sparked a furious backlash and raised questions about whether the court had gone too far in its fight against fake news.
