President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will head to the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on Thursday, 10-10-2024, on a visit that comes in response to an invitation from his brother, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. The visit will discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations in various fields, in addition to regional conditions and efforts to consolidate stability and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, in a manner that supports the development process and achieves the interests of the peoples of the region .

Egyptian-Eritrean relations

Egypt has historical relations with Eritrea, and Egypt played the largest role in supporting and backing the Eritrean revolution until achieving Eritrean national independence in 1993.

Throughout the armed struggle, Egypt maintained strong relations with the Eritrean revolutionary factions. After Eritrea's independence, Egypt participated in congratulating the declaration of independence and laying strong foundations for developing future relations and cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Relations between Egypt and Eritrea are among the most distinguished relations and can be described as brotherly relations based on mutual respect. Egyptian-Eritrean relations have been characterized by a high degree of distinction throughout history, starting before Eritrea's independence in 1991, when Egyptian moves reflected recognition of Eritrea as a separate entity from the Ethiopian entity at that time.
