The Heads of State and Government of the African Union, assembled on 15 and 16 February 2025, at their 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, inter alia,
- Strongly condemned the continued unilateral application and enforcement by certain countries of such measures as tools of pressure, including political and economic pressure, against any country, particularly against African Union Member States, with a view to preventing these countries from exercising their right of sovereignty and self-determination;
- Acknowledged that socio-economic sanctions and coercive measures are obstacles impeding the implementation of the African Union Agenda 2063 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals;
- Expressed their grave concern at the negative impact of sanctions and unilateral coercive measures on the right to development, and promoting cordial international relations, trade, investment, cooperation, as well as peace, security and stability;
- Urged the European Union and the United States of America to lift the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed on the State of Eritrea;
- Reaffirmed their solidarity with the People of Zimbabwe, South Sudan and the State of Eritrea in exercising their sovereign right to determine their own destiny
