Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Eritrea, today, Saturday, as part of ongoing consultations to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Eritrea and follow up on Minister Abdel Aati's recent visit to Eritrea on February 28.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister emphasized the depth of relations between Egypt and Eritrea, and expressed his aspiration to continue consultation and coordination to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore new opportunities for cooperation in all political, economic, and commercial fields, reflecting the deep historical ties that unite Egypt and Eritrea.
He also noted the hope for continuing the meetings of the tripartite coordination mechanism between Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia, the first ministerial meeting of which was held in Cairo last January.
The meeting witnessed an exchange of views on regional issues of common interest, foremost among them the situation in the African continent and ways to support peace and security in the Horn of Africa, specifically supporting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and expanding its influence across its entire territory. It also addressed developments in Sudan and the importance of providing all forms of support to the Sudanese state and its national institutions, and preserving Sudan's unity and territorial integrity.
The meeting also addressed the situation in the African Sahel region, as well as developments in the Red Sea and the rejection of any non-Red Sea state's involvement in Red Sea security and governance
