12,619 competitors crossed the finish line of the 17th PKO Poznań Half Marathon. This is a new record for the running event in the capital of Wielkopolska. The race was won by Oqbe Kibrom Ruesom from Eritrea (01:02:23) among men and Viktoriia Kaliuzhna from Ukraine (01:12:05) among women.
The winner of the race controlled the situation from the very beginning and ran almost the entire distance only with his pacemaker, the Kenyan Brian Limo, who finished second (01:02:30). The third at the finish line, the Pole Kamil Jastrzębski, had almost a three-minute loss to the leading pair and reached Plac Marka in a time of 01:05:16.
- Next year I will try to return to Poznań and fight for victory – announced Kamil Jastrzębski right after crossing the finish line.
The winner of the women's classification was tempted to surprise. Viktoriia Kaliuzhna chased the leader Beatrice Chepkemoi Mutai for almost 15 kilometers. After a strong start, the Kenyan weakened and finished second (01:13:38). The women's podium was completed by Maryna Nemchenko from Ukraine (01:14:55). The first Polish woman, Sabina Jarząbek, was fourth.
For the first time after a long break, wheelchair athletes returned to the half marathon route. Witold Misztela triumphed in this competition (1:19:13). The 17th PKO Poznań Half Marathon was completed by 11 competitors in active wheelchairs.
The record number of runners was enthusiastically supported by the unfailing Poznań audience. 19 fan points were set up along the race route. Crowds cheered at the start and finish line near the spire of the Poznań International Fair.
- I would like to thank the residents of our city for this support. We asked for it before the race and we are very encouraged by the attitude of the fans. The runners could feel great support on every kilometer of the route - says Łukasz Miadziołko, director of the 17th PKO Poznań Half Marathon.
Representatives from 36 countries took part in the 17th PKO Poznań Half Marathon. Almost a quarter of the finishers were debutants, and 30% of the runners were residents of Poznań. We hope to meet the competitors and fans in the next editions of the race.
