Berhane Tesfaye was two seconds off the race record in the Copenhagen Marathon. The best Dane came in ninth.
Berhane Tesfaye can call himself the winner of the Copenhagen Marathon 2025, but he is not going to set a race record.
The long-distance runner from Eritrea was the fastest on the 42,195 meters in the streets of the capital, and he spent just 2 hours, 8 minutes and 25 seconds to cover the distance.
That's two seconds slower than the race record set in 2022 by his compatriot Birhane Tsegay.
The race started in Østerbro, and via Frederiksberg, northern Amager and central Copenhagen, the runners ended up back in Østerbro with the finish line in Fælledparken. Along the route, the runners were applauded by thousands of spectators.
A tired Berhane Tesfaye crossed the finish line alone to great cheers. It took 44 seconds before Vincent Mutai from Kenya crossed the finish line in second place, while there was another minute and a half left for third place, Yismaw Atinafu from Ethiopia.
AGF runner Mikael Johnsen was the fastest Dane in the field. He ran the distance in 2 hours, 16 minutes and 56 seconds, which was enough for an overall ninth place.
20,978 people had registered for the race, and 19,050 started. More than two-thirds of the participants were men.
