IFS Kamal brings with him a rich diplomatic portfolio and over a decade of experience in India’s foreign service. His previous international postings include:
- Second Secretary in Trinidad and Tobago
- Second Secretary (Consular) in Argentina
- Director (East & Southern Africa) at the MEA headquarters in New Delhi
His latest role in Milan, combined with deep familiarity with African affairs through his work in the East & Southern Africa Division, makes him a strategic fit for India’s diplomatic mission in Eritrea.

India and Eritrea established diplomatic relations in 1993, and the relationship has since evolved through-

What This Appointment Signifies
Mr Kamal’s appointment is seen as a move to further consolidate India’s growing footprint in Africa, especially in the strategically located Horn of Africa. Eritrea, with its Red Sea coastline and proximity to key international shipping lanes, holds geostrategic importance. India’s development aid, technical assistance, and educational support continue to be central pillars in fostering goodwill and strategic cooperation in the region.

According to a release by the Ministry of External Affairs –
“Raj Kamal, presently posted in the Consulate General of India, Milan, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.”
