Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the President of the State of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the guard of honor rendered the salute at the reception, which also included playing the national anthems of both countries and taking a commemorative photograph of the two presidents.
An expanded session of talks was then held in the presence of the delegations of both countries. This was followed by a meeting between the two presidents. President El-Sisi also hosted a luncheon in honor of the Eritrean president and his accompanying delegation.
President El-Sisi welcomed President Afwerki in his second home, Egypt, noting the deep historical ties the two countries share. The President stressed further deepening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation across various fields to serve the common interests of both peoples, particularly through enhancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Egypt and Eritrea. President El-Sisi also reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
President Afwerki expressed his appreciation for visiting Egypt and meeting President El-Sisi and valued the progress of bilateral relations as well as Egypt’s support for Eritrea’s development aspirations. The Eritrean president affirmed Eritrea’s interest in boosting cooperation with Egypt to further strengthen ties and thereby fulfill shared interests and aspirations for prosperity and development.
The meeting addressed regional and international developments, including the Horn of Africa.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in support of preserving security and stability in the Horn of Africa, considering it an extension of Egypt’s national security. The President also underscored the importance of coordination between Egypt and Eritrea to maintain stability in the region. The Eritrean president expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to preserve peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and to achieve comprehensive development among its countries, stressing the importance of coordination between the two nations to uphold the foundations of peace and stability in the region.
The two presidents also discussed the latest developments in Sudan. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, security, and stability. In this context, both sides emphasized the necessity of ending the current crisis and supporting Sudan in restoring comprehensive stability.
The two presidents discussed ongoing cooperation between their countries to ensure the Red Sea security and the freedom of navigation therein. President El-Sisi stressed the importance of intensifying coordination between Egypt and Eritrea,emphasizing the exclusive responsibility of the Red Sea littoral states for its governance and security, with which President Afwerki concurred. The two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultations to safeguard regional peace and stability and support comprehensive development efforts in the region.
