The prodigal Eritrean camel marches for 26 years and going strong!

 

May 21, 2017 -Eritrea’s 26th Independence Day celebration officially began after the opening speech by the Head of Consular Affairs of the Consulate of Eritrea, Mr. Ahmed Iman. 

 

He started by congratulating Eritrean people on 26th anniversary of Eritrea’s Independence, he also thanked all those volunteers that worked hard to make the 26th Independence Day celebrations in the city of Toronto, Canada,  a success.  The hard work is a yet another example of the resilience of the Eritrean people. This year’s theme “Laying Pillars for Vibrant Growth”. In a speech he delivered, Mr. Iman highlighted Eritrea’s achievements in the last 26 years despite the challenges it was facing and continues to face. In spite of the numerous obstacles that been imposed against Eritrea, including the illegal UN sanctions, the nation has endured and continues grow and build itself. The resilience and patience that have been hallmarks of the Eritrean people have paid off and the nation looks forward to bright future. 

 

Mr. Iman ​​​​​​​​also highlighted some of the developments Eritrea has achieved, in the fields of education, healthcare, transportation, communications, water supplies, energy and environment.  As a result, the basic needs of  Eritrean households are being met. He concluded by sending a congratulatory message to the GOE, EDF and the Eritrean people in Eritrea and abroad to have a happy 26th independence day. 

 

At Independence Day celebrations in Toronto, Eritreans welcomed special guests like the CEO of African Unity for Sixth Region Canada, Mr. Macaulay O.O. Kalu, who conveyed his best wishes to the GOE and the Eritrean people on the occasion of their independence. Mr. Macaulay expressed his firm belief that the friendly relations between the African Unity and Eritrea will further strengthen.

 

Eritreans and friends of Eritrean participated in the Independence Day celebrations that featured cultural shows and live music, and concluded successfully on Sunday night.

 

Following the Independence Day celebrations, a flag raising ceremony was hosted on Tuesday May 23, at the City hall of Toronto.

 

Eritrean nationals living in Greater Toronto Area and its surrounding towns stated that this year’s 26th independence had  special significance as it was being celebrated after delivering successful results  in Eritrea’s development goals, thanks in large part to the policies and dedication of GOE, EDF and the hard working  people of Eritrea. The participants expressed their commitment to help and support Eritrea’s national building process.


In conclusion, the celebration in all Canadian cities highlighted a various activities depicting in harmony, diversity and determination of the Eritrean people to reinforce participation in the national development drive and given unwavering rebuff to external conspiracies against the motherland. 


.The Independence Day celebrations continued with the same spirit and fervor in other Canadian cities including Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Regina and Kitchener.
