Addis Ababa, January 7, 2019 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea officially today opened the Oumajir-Humera border, a new road linking Ethiopia and Eritrea.

The opening of the border will further enable the people-to-people connection on both sides and facilitate cross-border trade in the long term.
Ethiopia and Eritrea normalized their relationship last July with the signing of a joint declaration of peace and friendship agreement in Eritrea’s capital, Asmara.
Following their agreements, the two nations restored flight links, reopened their embassies, allowed direct telephone calls and opened borders for trade and movement of their people from one country to another.
