Eritreans and Eritrean Americans in the Boston area Denounce Sanctions and raise $ 20,000 as a token of appreciation for the GOE’s policy of national reconstruction and social justice!!
On February 6th 2010 held a meeting, organized by the Boston Mekhete Committee, to denounce the illegal and unjust UNSC sanctions and express their unequivocal support to the Government and people of Eritrea.
After Mr Solomon Mehari, the chair of the Mekhete Committe, gave a brief
introduction he called upon the representatives of the various organizations: Dr Tesfalidet Tecle for PFDJ (People’s Front for Democracy and Justice); Mr Amanuel Estifanos in charge Community Affairs in Boston and its vicinity; Abraham Assefaw for the Young-PFDJ; Meseret Kebrom for the Hidri Youth Group; Zaid Zemui for the NUEW in Boston (The National Union of Eritrean Women in Boston) and Kebrom Kebede for the ECDC (the Eritrean Cultural and Development Center) gave messages of solidarity with the GOE and people of Eritrea and denounced the invalid and illegal sanctions.
The main speaker of the event was Boston’s own Dr.Tesfay Aradom, who in his detailed presentation:
1 Traced the history of injustice and conspiracy perpetrated by successive US and UK administration to demonstrate that these nations have always been against the interests of the Eritrean people and their nation
2 Gave a critical analysis of the false and illegal accusations both from the legal and ethical standpoint
3 Demonstrated how the psychological war unleashed on the Eritrean people, both inside and outside the country, is aimed at controlling our minds, emotion and activities and how similar to past experiences this war is also doomed to fail
4 Traced the historical and political experiences and factors that have
contributed toward of courage, perseverance, resourcefulness and resilience and sacrifices that the Eritrean people in times of adversity. He emphasized the need to fully understand our history and relish these qualities in order to avoid unnecessary self-defeating responses to the current situation imposed upon us
5 Underlined the importance of getting organized in order to succeed in
rendering the illegal sanctions null and void and provide support for the
policies of national reconstruction and social justice undertaken by the GOE
Eritreans in the audience took turns to denounce the illegal sanctions and expressed their determination to have them annulled. As a token of their support to the Eritrean people and the GOE, the participants collectively decided to denounce the sanctions and raise funds. As the result, in addition to unanimously agreeing on the following statements, they pledge and/or made a total financial contribution of $ 20,000 by the end of the event.
Eritreans and Eritrean Americans in the Boston area unanimously pass resolutions on the unjust and illegal UNSC resolutions
1 We strongly condemn the baseless and unjust US orchestrated UNSC resolution 1907(2009) that has imposed sanction against Eritrea and we call upon the UNSC to immediately repeal and annul it.
2 We call upon the UNSC, the US government, the European Union and the African Union as guarantors of the Algiers Agreement to shoulder their responsibility in ensuring that the Ethiopian Gov’t immediately vacate sovereign Eritrean territory and allow the unconditionally the demarcation of the border
3 We call upon the Obama administration to cease its hostile policies toward Eritrea and to honor its campaign promises by working towards constructive engagement with the GOE to promote the long term interests of the two peace loving peoples of the United States and Eritrea.
4 Realizing that the national security and sovereignty of Eritrea, achieved
through priceless sacrifices of tens of thousands of its precious sons and
daughters is of utmost significance to us as Eritrean Americans, resolve to defend it against any external aggression and protect it from any attempts to sow seeds of discord among its people.
5 Praising the immense national reconstruction effort undertaken by the people and GOE to ensure food security, equitable distribution of health services and education, we express our readiness to contribute everything that is expected of us.
6 We express our appreciation and support for the Eritrean Defense Forces (EDF) that constantly vigilant to safeguard Eritrea’s sovereignty.
The successful and invigorating event was preceded by dances to popular and patriotic music reflecting the theme of the event and finally observing a moment of silence in memory and honor of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to liberate their country and enable its people to live in peace, harmony and social and economic stability.
