23 December 2010 will mark the first anniversary of the illegal, unfair and unjust US sponsored sanctions against the people of Eritrea. Security Council Resolution 1907 (2009) is in violation of Eritrea’s right to self defense and self determination which are enshrined in Articles 2 respectively, of the United Nation’s Charter. Eritrea also believes that only by strict conformity with the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States enshrined in Article 2.7 of the UN Charter, can peace, stability and security be restored in Somalia. Eritrea has also consistently called on the international community to allow the Somali people to choose their own leaders. I call on President Barack Obama to immediately and unconditionally annul and repeal the illegal, unfair and unjust sanctions against Eritrea to restore US credibility and integrity in the region.

UN Security Council document (S/2008/769) shows that relevant parts of report used in Security Council allegations against Eritrea were compiled by US representatives to the UN and it appears from reading the UN report that the USA was highly instrumental in writing the passage and in producing the Somalia document, and not the Monitoring Group on Somalia as we have been led to believe.
