On Sunday April 18th 2010, the Hizbawi Mekete of Atlanta conducted a
successful dagmay mekete meeting regarding the unjust, unfair and illegal sanctions that the United Nations Security Council put on Eritrea back in December. Members of Teqebelti Hidri of Atlanta lead participant with the singing of our national anthem to officially open the meeting after which Mr. Tekle Beyene gave a brief introduction on the status of the sanctions. Following the introduction, a powerful and engaging poem titled “ShrHi nay alemna Asdemimuka’do, meKt hizbey AyiKunkda gado” was read by Mr. Mihretab Woldegergis which described the history of injustice that has been committed against Eritrea and reminded participants that regardless of what’s been done to our country “we as people need to unite” and show the world that our resilience is the vein of our existence.
Dr. Ghidewon Abay Asmerom, guest honor of the mekete meeting, then gave detailed briefing of UNSC resolution 1907 and its progress since it was passed in December of 2009. Participants of the meeting once again condemned the unjust action of the United Nation and reaffirmed their support of the government and people of Eritrea. Participants also raised over $40,000 to go towards to the mekete program. The meeting was concluded with Teqebelti Hidri leading everyone in singing the historic “Tsina’tna” song which further exemplified the unrelenting and undying support of the Eritrean people in Atlanta towards the government and people of Eritrea.
