On the occasion of the one year anniversary of the UN Security Council’s adoption of the illegal, unfair and unjust Resolution 1907 (2009) of 23 December 2009 which imposed sanctions against Eritrea, Eritrean communities in the Diaspora and friends of Eritrea sent over 180,000 emails and faxes, as well as placed phone calls to President Barack Obama and Secretary General Ban-Ki moon. Under this concerted worldwide Action Month organized from November 20 to December 20, 2010, they called upon the US Administration and the UN to:-
- repeal UNSC resolution 1907 (2009) that imposed unjust and illegal sanctions against Eritrea and its people;
- urge Ethiopia to end the illegal occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories;
- work for a viable and comprehensive peace in the Horn of Africa;
The appeals detailed the concern Eritreans have on the US administration’s role in spearheading and initiating the UN Security Council resolution based on unsubstantiated and fabricated accusations and coercing the United Nations Security Council members to adopt the illegal sanctions against Eritrea.
Eritreans and friends of Eritrea thus appealed for a broad constructive engagement of the US administration with Eritrea and the region to promote peace, security and development in the Horn of Africa.
Finally, the appeal stressed on the centrality of ending the illegal occupation of sovereign Eritrean territories by Ethiopia in the promotion of regional peace, security and development, in total respect to the 13th April 2002 final and binding delimitation and November 2007 demarcation decision of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC).
