09/22/2023

New York, Sep 22 (SANA) The designated vice chancellor and head of the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Bassam Sabbagh, discussed with the Iranian foreign minister, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, the ways to strengthen strategic relations between both countries, as well as accelerate their development in several key areas.

During the meeting, which took place at the UN headquarters in New York, the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, as well as continue efforts to completely eradicate terrorism, was emphasized.

Both sides stressed the importance of the meetings held under the Astana format to achieve greater stability and security in the region.

Syria and Eritrea to strengthen bilateral ties

Likewise, Sabbagh met with the senior political advisor to the President of Eritrea, Yemani Ghareeb, with whom he discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations. Both sides emphasized the need to intensify mutual consultations.

Sabbagh highlighted the importance of joint work, including within the framework of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Charter, to reveal the catastrophic effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries on several nations, including Syria and Eritrea, and the inclusion of these issues on the agenda of all high-level meetings and international summits held under the umbrella of the United Nations.

Syria reveals violations of the UN Charter on its territory

Likewise, the Syrian official denounced during a meeting with the United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, the flagrant violations of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law in Syria.

“These violations are the result of continued Israeli aggression against Syrian sovereignty, the illegal military presence of the United States and Turkey in the north of the country, as well as the inhumane economic blockade imposed on the Syrian people,” Sabbagh highlighted.
