Central Hesse police headquarters is preparing for a large-scale operation + consistent action against violent criminals announced
Gießen: For the coming weekend, from July 7th to 9th, 2023, an Eritrea festival was planned in the Hessenhallen in Gießen. After the event became known, a preparatory staff from the central Hesse police headquarters took over the operational planning for this large-scale situation. On June 29, 2023, the city of Gießen issued a prohibition order. It is therefore currently unclear whether the festival will take place.
During the last festival, there were massive attacks on the event on August 20, 2022, some of the helpers and visitors of the festival were injured. More than a hundred people climbed over the barriers at the exhibition center. They armed themselves with batons, iron bars, knives and stones and attacked people at the event. Police forces who were already on site were also attacked. The attackers showed a high level of violence and aggressive behavior. A working group was set up. More than 100 suspects have since been identified. In order to prevent similar acts of violence, also from this group of people, preventive measures were taken.
