The Eritrean cultural festival at Eggeby farm starts on Thursday and on the same day those protesting against the festival have been given permission to demonstrate.
But the counter-demonstrators can stay on the other side of the E18, says police press spokesman Ola Österling to Nyhetsbyrån Järva.

The Eritrean cultural festival is planned to last at Järvafältet for four days, including Sunday. The counter-protesters have been given permission to hold their protest meeting from Thursday through Saturday. They will set up two tents on the grass at the intersection Rinkebysvängen/Hjulstavägen, below Ovanbygränd.

It was on August 3 last year that a violent riot broke out on Järvafältet when hundreds of people clashed during the first day of the cultural festival. The organizers of the cultural festival are accused by the counter-protesters of doing the business of the Eritrean regime. 52 people were then injured, four of them seriously. Two people were arrested, one was sentenced to prison and 15 were deported from the country.

This year, the police have prepared better for the festival. They have set up cameras around Eggeby farm on Järvafältet, and will also use drones to monitor what is happening. The police's permission for camera surveillance is valid from 22 July 06.00 to 23.59 on July 28, but the cameras were already set up before the decision had been made.

According to information in Aftonbladet, the police have also set up wire cages on the roof of the police station in Rinkeby, which will serve as a temporary detention center for 50 people. In addition, the police will receive reinforcements from other police regions to cope with the work.

Throughout the year, it has been discussed whether the Eritrean cultural festival , which has been organized at Järvafältet since the end of the 1990s, should receive a permit or not. The liberals in the city of Stockholm, and the opposition, have demanded that the festival be banned. The political majority has vacillated back and forth, but finally decided that the festival will be authorized with reference to the constitution .
