How Israel Owns the U.S. Government

On June 22nd, Crispian Balmer headlined in The Arab Weekly, “From Clinton to Trump, Netanyahu fights with presidents and wins: Netanyahu’s belief in his ability to advance his agenda, and withstand American pressure when needed, has deep roots.” He noted:

A little over a month ago, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu appeared to have been shunted to the shadows by US President Donald Trump, who hopscotched the Middle East without visiting Israel, traditionally Washington’s closest regional ally.

Worse still, from Netanyahu’s perspective, Trump lifted sanctions on neighbouring Syria, something Israel opposed, and talked up the prospects of securing a nuclear deal with Iran, something the prime minister has always cautioned against.

Fast forward five weeks and the United States has bombed Iran’s main nuclear installations, fulfilling a decades-old dream of Netanyahu to convince Washington to bring its full military might to thwart Tehran’s atomic ambitions.

The U.S. attack underscores a broader truth that has defined Netanyahu’s career: no matter how fraught his relationships with successive presidents, he normally ends up getting what he wants.

For over three decades, Netanyahu has clashed, often spectacularly, with American leaders. He has lectured them, defied them, embarrassed them publicly and privately. And yet, across Democratic and Republican administrations, US military aid has flowed largely uninterrupted to Israel. Washington remains Israel’s chief arms supplier and diplomatic shield. …

Just one month ago, opposition leader Yair Lapid accused Netanyahu of destroying Israel’s relations with the United States. This weekend’s action represents the closest US-Israeli military alignment yet against a common adversary.

Withstanding pressure

Netanyahu’s belief in his ability to advance his agenda, and withstand American pressure when needed, has deep roots.

Barely a month after becoming prime minister for the first time in 1996, he met President Bill Clinton in Washington and immediately rubbed him up the wrong way.

“Who the f* does he think he is? Who’s the f*ing superpower here?” Clinton asked his aides afterwards, according to US diplomat Aaron David Miller, who was present.

But vital US aid to Israel continued to flow, something that would remain a constant over the years. …

Relations between the two turned openly hostile, initially over Israeli settlement building in occupied territory that Palestinians claim for a future stake, a constant thorn in US-Israeli relations.

Matters deteriorated further as Obama entered negotiations with Iran to curb its nuclear drive, a project that Israel said is aimed at creating atomic bombs and that Tehran has said is for purely civilian purposes.

Netanyahu spoke to Congress in 2015 at the invitation of Republicans to denounce the prospective deal, without informing the White House. “(The accord) doesn’t block Iran’s path to the bomb; it paves Iran’s path to the bomb,” he said.

Obama was widely reported to have been furious, but still, the following year Washington delivered the largest military aid package to Israel in US history, $38 billion over 10 years.

Political analysts say Netanyahu takes US support as a given, confident that backing from evangelical Christians and the small Jewish-American community will guarantee that Israel remains well-armed, however much he antagonises the White House. …

That is an entirely truthful but shallow portrayal of Israel’s control over America — the take-over by Israel goes actually goes back to the death of FDR on 12 April 1945 and his immediate successor Truman creating Israel on 14 May 1948. He did it as his having been (like Hitler was, though Truman had a different interpretation of the Bible than Hitler did) a fundamentalist (or literalist) Christian. The Bible is loaded with self-contradictions, and therefore many moralities that are even opposite from (contradictory of) one-another can be based upon the Bible; and, for Truman, the Old Testament passages that dominated in his ethical view (not in Hitler’s) were ones in which ‘God’ gave Israel to the Jews and ordered them to exterminate and replace the Arabs there (Genesis 15:18-21, Deuteronomy 7:1-2, 7:16, 20:16-18, etc.). Thus, the Nakba or ethnic cleansing of non-Jews (who were over 90% of the residents ) from that land, started the very next day, on 15 May 1945, and this is a war that continues even today.

So, Balmer’s assumption that it had started with Netanyahu in the 1990s is false.

In fact, the evilness of the people who lead Israel has actually been blatant ever since Israel’s founding in 1948, but Israel has been heavily backed by the U.S. Government throughout the entire period, and decent Jews in America at that time of its creation were outraged at the U.S. Government’s support of the Israelis against the Palestinians. For example, Albert Einstein was a prominent American when he was one of the signatories to a letter to the editor of the New York Times, on 4 December 1948, in which he and many other prominent American Jews condemned as “fascists” (but hadn’t Americans just fought AGAINST fascists in WW II?) Menachem Begin and Yitzak Shamir and their gangs who slaughtered whole Arab villages in order to seize their land for Zionist Jews to take as ‘Israel’, and the letter’s signatories strongly condemned that movement — the movement which created this apartheid racist ‘Israel’, called “Zionism” — as being “akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties,” against which America had waged and won World War II.

Today’s American Government represents those “Nazi and Fascist parties,” against their victims (the Palestinians), even though during WW II, many Americans had even died fighting against such evil people as the founders of Israel’s Government were. (Israel was created not merely by racist-fascist Jews such as Ben Gurion etc., but most especially by the Christian Harry Truman, who was America’s all-time-worst President; he started the Cold War, and started America on the imperialistic path that now is called “neoconservatism,” which produced also the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq and other such imperialistic global-conquest ventures that have destroyed many nations. Almost as soon as FDR died, Truman turned the Government to be and become what has since been consistently neoconservative (U.S.-imperialist) — even decades before that term, “neoconservatism,” for America’s version of the racist-fascist-imperialist, or “nazi,” ideology yet existed. Truman was the very first neocon, but all U.S. Presidents since Truman have tolerated neoconservatism, and since Lyndon Johnson have been controlled by it.

Had Americans been wrong in WW II to have fought against Nazis and Fascists, or are today’s Americans aware that the current U.S. Government is protecting Israel’s ideological nazis and fascists against any rights for Palestinians — against rights for the descendants of the survivors of Jewish racist-fascist-imperialism, or “nazism”? Does Israel represent American values, really — or does it represent instead the values of America’s enemies, such as the current U.S. Government itself is (as will be subsequently exemplified here)? Not only does Israel represent the ideology against which the U.S. under FDR went to war in WW2, but Israel has even been at war AGAINST the U.S.

On 8 June 1967, Israel intentionally attacked and sank the ship USS Liberty, slaughtering 34 of our sailors, and injuring another 172. The official U.S. government inquiry by an independent study Commission headed by Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, found that, “after eight hours of aerial surveillance, Israel launched a two-hour air and naval attack against the USS Liberty, the world’s most sophisticated intelligence ship.” “Unmarked Israeli aircraft dropped napalm canisters on the Liberty’s bridge, and fired 30mm cannons and rockets into our ship.” “Israeli torpedo boats later returned to machine-gun at close range three of the Liberty’s life rafts that had been lowered into the water by survivors to rescue the most seriously wounded.” “There is compelling evidence that Israel’s attack was a deliberate attempt to destroy an American ship and kill her entire crew.” “Israel committed acts of murder against American servicemen and an act of war against the United States.” “The White House deliberately prevented the U.S. Navy from coming to the defense of the Liberty.” “Surviving crewmembers were later threatened with ‘court-martial, imprisonment or worse’ if they exposed the truth; and were abandoned by their own government.” “The White House deliberately covered up the facts of this attack from the American people.” “This attack remains the only serious naval incident that has never been thoroughly investigated by Congress; to this day, no surviving crewmember has been permitted to officially and publicly testify about the attack.” “There has been an official cover-up without precedent in American naval history.”

The USS Liberty Veterans Association delivered to the Executive Agent for the U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, on 8 June 2005, their own 35-page study report backing this up and urging retaliation. It quoted from Richard Helms, the Director of Central Intelligence at the time of the USS Liberty attack. He supported, as Helms put it, “the board’s finding that there could be no doubt that the Israelis knew exactly what they were doing in attacking the Liberty. I have yet to understand why it was felt necessary to attack this ship or who ordered the attack.” The Veterans Association concluded that, “the fact that the Israeli government and its surrogates in the United States have worked so long and hard to prevent an inquiry itself speaks volumes as to what such an inquiry would find. The USS Liberty Veterans Association, Inc. respectfully insists that the Secretary of the Army convene an investigatory body to undertake the complete investigation that should have been carried out thirty-eight years ago.” Their study and urging were simply ignored (not only by ‘our’ Government but by its ‘news’-media including all of the ’top’ ones).

Clearly, the Warren Commission’s report about the JFK assassination was also a cover-up, and the CIA itself was involved in that. The President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy, known unofficially as the Warren Commission, was established by President Lyndon B. Johnson through his Executive Order 11130 on 29 November 1963. For more information relevant to Johnson and the JFK assassination, see the 22 January 2024 “How LBJ forged the US-Israel alliance: The special relationship between the United States and Israel was cemented by the support offered by Lyndon B. Johnson throughout the sixties.” This doesn’t necessarily mean that LBJ had JFK assassinated, but the Warren Commission’s refusal even to consider that possibility — the possibility that the primary beneficiary, other than Israel itself, FROM the JFK assassination, had been involved in it — constitutes powerful supporting evidence for this hypothesis; and the Commission’s refusal even so much as to consider that possibility made inevitable the public’s high distrust of its Report. Making it even worse, Johnson appointed to the 7-member Warren Commission the pro-nazi Allen Dulles who had been Eisenhower’s CIA Director, and whom JFK had fired  and who still was fuming about it — and there is lots of evidence that the CIA had been behind that assassination. People have to be fools not to distrust it. I consider the 20 May 2025 testimony — see its transcript here — by Douglas P. Horne, to the House Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, to be definitive that it was a cover-up; and more details were presented by him in this video. Additional evidences, which provide broader context behind that, can be seen here. What Horne established to a certainty is that there was massive evidence-tampering by the agents that the Warren Commission was relying upon.

A case can be made that Israel (which was created by Truman, which FDR would never have done) controls the U.S. Government, and even that Israel’s Mossad had JFK assassinated. But there was so much evidence-tampering so that probably the reson why JFK was assasssinated can’t ever be known.

Everybody thought that Hitler’s regime would never be surpassed in its evilness, but we might be close to surpassing it now. The U.S. Government certainly poses a threat to the world that at least matches what Hitler had aspired to. Moreover, international polls have shown that by overwhelming margins throughout the world, the U.S. Government is considered to pose by far the biggest threat of ANY nation to world peace.

The U.S. empire has, for decades, been extending its military reach closer and closer, now only to around 300 miles or 500 kilometers, away (in Ukraine, which has the nearest of all foreign borders, to The Kremlin — which is why the U.S. Government has craved it ever since 1945) from being able to deliver within a mere five minutes a decapitation-strike by missile against Russia’s central command, The Kremlin. It similarly is targeting China, but isn’t yet that close to Beijing.

A World War Three (WW3) would kill approximately half of the world’s population within two years after the nuclear explosions. That would be around five billion people. 

WW2 produced an estimated 70-85 million deaths — only 1.5% to 2% as many as a WW3 would: 5 billion within two years. WW3 would thus be ENORMOUSLY worse than WW2 was.

The U.S. government, in order to fulfill on its obsession ever since 25 July 1945 (when Truman decided to start the Cold War) that America must come to rule over the entire planet, is no longer threatening only Russia so closely (as 300 miles), but is also aiming to do the same to China, by grabbing China’s province of Taiwan. (It tries to do this though the official U.S. policy regarding Taiwan is “Taiwan is a part of China.”) And, even now, it is immensely endangering Russia's and China's close ally Iran and might very soon conquer it. This is a voracious empire — just like Hitler’s was.

Iran never attacked us; Russia never attacked us; China never attacked us; all of this by the U.S. is purely aggressions; and in violation not only of international law but even of the U.S. Constitution itself. The U.S. Constitution demands that U.S. troops never be sent abroad except if the Congress will pass a Declaration of War against an enemy — but this provision has been ignored as soon as WW2 ended — never complied with after 1945. It was again rampantly violated when Trump bombed Iran on June 22nd. This is rampant and unaccountable international aggressions by the U.S. Government and its colonies or ‘allies’, such as especially Israel — the world’s most-blatant international-law violating nation — perpetrate. But is it ACTUALLY by the Israeli empire? Is Israel using its control over the U.S. Governmennt and ‘news’-media so as to be the hand behind the throne of America’s global empire? This is out-of-control evilness by the U.S. empire, or maybe even the Israeli empire. After WW2, the U.S. Government produced more than 297 instances in which the U.S. President, with no congressional declaration of war, sent U.S. troops abroad. That 297 U.S. invasions in 77 years is more than all of the 160 instances put together during the prior 147 years, 1798-1945. After 1944, America went haywire on foreign aggressions. The June 2008 British Medical Journal (BMJ) study “Fifty years of violent war deaths from Vietnam to Bosnia: analysis of data from the world health survey programme” found that “From 1955 to 2002, data from the surveys indicated an estimated 5.4 million violent war deaths (95% confidence interval 3.0 to 8.7 million) in 13 countries, ranging from 7000 in the Democratic Republic of Congo [DRC] to 3.8 million in Vietnam.” All of those wars were initiated/precipitated by, and/or carried-out on behalf of, the U.S. regime, in order to extend its empire. For example, the DRC war was precipitated by Patrice Lumumba’s assassination, which was part of the American empire’s Cold War, which had been started by U.S. President Truman on 25 July 1945, upon the recommendation by the intensely imperialist Winston Churchill, and its seconding then by Truman’s personal hero, General Eisenhower, that if the U.S. Government wouldn’t take over the world, then the Soviet Union would. All of those wars had been precipitated on this basis, which was carried out by all U.S. Presidents since, except for JFK, who became assassinated when he decided to end what, till then, had been Truman’s and Eisenhower’s wars. Furthermore, as Isaac Chotiner pointed out in his 30 October 2023 New Yorker article  “The Real Story Behind Patrice Lumumba’s Assassination” : 

Lumumba was murdered, brought down by a combination of Congolese politicians and Belgian “advisers,” with the tacit support of the United States and the malign neglect of the United Nations. The crisis that then engulfed Congo — impossibly complex, increasingly brutal — ended with the three-decade rule of Joseph-Désiré Mobutu, a onetime Lumumba ally who went on to govern as a ruthless Western client. Mobutu’s bloody final months, in the nineteen-nineties, were followed by an even more brutal war between Congo and its neighbors, which left millions dead. The death of Lumumba was a signal moment of both the Cold War and decolonization, two defining events of the post-1945 world.

Viewed in that truer and broader perspective, the BMJ’s estimate “ranging from 7000 in the Democratic Republic of Congo” must be recognized as having been extremely on the conservative (or pro-imperialism) side, inasmuch as it ignores the “even more brutal war between Congo and its neighbors, which left millions dead.”

A standard ‘justification’ of America’s imperialism has been that it merely carries out the Monroe Doctrine, but that ‘doctrine’ was only one President’s (James Monroe’s) opinion, and it was no endorsement of imperilism, but instead his opinion was that throughout the Western Hemisphere, the U.S. Government ought to prohibit imperialism — NOT allow it to spread (from Europe) to what then was called “the new world.” Unfortunately, Monroe’s opinion subsequently became twisted into a support of American imperialism by Theodore Roosevelt (a fore-runner of the global-imperialist Truman), and then, after the death of the passionate anti-imperialist President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945, FDR’s successor Truman created the military-industrial complex (MIC), which his successor Eisenhower continued building up and then publicly denounced a mere three days before leaving office, so that only his successors would get the blame for it. Ike knew that (under Truman’s, and now his own, creation of this monster that’s destroying the world) the MIC had already taken control over the U.S. Government. And he knew that the nation was therefore now becoming unmoored from the U.S. Constitution that America’s passionately anti-imperialist Founders had written. This is how the anti-Constitutional U.S. regime that we have today was born.  

The U.S. Constitution’s clause on this (but that article falsely alleges that there have been only 5 declarations of war by the U.S.; the actual figure is 11, but on 5 separate occasions), assigns to ONLY the U.S. Congress (by a 50%+ vote in each of its two houses) the authority and power to “Declare War,” and treats such proposed legislations like any regular bill in Congress — the bill to declare war doesn’t BECOME law UNLESS it has been passed by a majority in both houses and then signed by the President. The Founder were serious about that. However, the last time this (a war that the U.S. legally partipates in) happened was in 1942: America’s simultaneous but separate three declarations of war against Bulgaria, Hungary, and Rumania, which had just declared war against America. Since that time, the first neocon (or full-fledged champion of U.S. imperialism) Truman became President and started the Cold War on 25 July 1945, the Nakba in Palestine on 14 May 1948, and then the wars in Korea, and against Vietnam, and against China, and other ‘anti-communist’ but really imperialistic wars by the U.S. Truman’s creation of the Cold War on 25 July 1945 became an “open sesame” to systematically violate the U.S. Constitution so as to achieve a result that the political megadonors want (irrespective of the Constitution). America’s Founders weren’t able to imagine how corrupt the U.S. Government might (and after 1944 did) become. The U.S. Constitution is, by now, largely gone.

As I have pointed out, Truman’s war for the U.S. Government to take over the entire world was so extreme even at its foundations, as to hire for this purpose (to take over the whole world) all German Nazis and Nazi-supporters who were willing to work toward this objective, and consequently the U.S. Government protected supporters of Hitler’s Nazis in Ukraine, and secretly built them up and used them ultimately to take over Ukraine for the U.S. Government, in their U.S. coup in Ukraine during 20-27 February 2024. 

We now have a U.S. President, Donald Trump, who (like his immediate predecessor Joe Biden) pours U.S. weapons into Israel to exterminate the Gazans, and publicly endorses Israel’s illegal unprovoked 13 June 2025 invasion of Iran to overthrow Iran’s Government. On June 17th, the AP headlined “US spies said Iran wasn’t building a nuclear weapon. Trump dismisses that assessment”, and reported that Trump’s own appointed top person in the U.S. Intelligence Community of 17 separate Intelligence Agencies, the person who writes and provides to him the “PDB” or President’s Daily Brief from all of those Agencies:

Tulsi Gabbard left no doubt when she testified to Congress about Iran’s nuclear program earlier this year.

The country was not building a nuclear weapon, the national intelligence director told lawmakers, and its supreme leader had not reauthorized the dormant program even though it had enriched uranium to higher levels.

But President Donald Trump dismissed the assessment of U.S. spy agencies during an overnight flight back to Washington as he cut short his trip to the Group of Seven summit to focus on the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

“I don’t care what she said,” Trump told reporters. In his view, Iran was “very close” to having a nuclear bomb.

Trump’s statement aligned him with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has described a nuclear-armed Iran as an imminent threat, rather than with his own top intelligence adviser. …

In her March testimony to lawmakers, Gabbard said the intelligence community “continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized the nuclear weapons program he suspended in 2003.”

On THAT basis (Trump’s fraudulently alleging that Iran posed an imminent nuclear-weapons “threat” to what is actually the international-outlaw regime in Israel), the U.S. is now joining with Israel’s invasion of Iran, no longer merely by supplying its weapons, but by directly and publicly threatening Iran’s head-of-state or “Supreme Leader,” Ayatollah Khamenei, and demanding his immediate and unconditional surrender to Israel’s unprovoked and blatantly illegal invasion of Iran.

And then, of course, yesterday, on June 21st, Trump bombed three of Iran’s nuclear plants.

All of the U.S. empire’s colonies share in its guilt — for example, the original nazi nation, Germany, does.

On June 18th, Russia’s RT News had already headlined “Germany’s Merz praises Israel for doing ‘dirty work for us’: The German chancellor has endorsed the ongoing Israeli strikes against Iran”, and opened:

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has lauded Israel’s military strikes against Iran, saying the Israeli government and army are doing the “dirty work” of Western nations. Merz made the remarks in a series of interviews on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada, attended by all guarantors of the original 2015 Iran nuclear deal, except for Russia and China. “This is the dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us. We are also victims of this regime,” he said in an interview with ZDF, claiming that “this mullah regime has brought death and destruction to the world.” I can only say: The greatest respect for the fact that the Israeli army and the Israeli leadership had the courage to do this.

Merz is an extremist supporter of supremacist-imperialist-racist-fascism (or ideolocal nazism, which Israel and all Zionists likewise are), so much as to be trying to persuade Trump to increase his commitment to helping Ukraine defeat Russia (which, of course, his predecessor Hitler was likewise obsessed to defeat). However, Trump, like all U.S. Presidents ever since LBJ, does whatever Israel’s regime wants; and, in this case, that’s to decrease support to Ukraine’s war against Russia, in order to increase support to Israel’s war against Iran. (Trump has always hated Iran.)

Russia and China, if the U.S. empire succeeds in overthrowing Iran’s Government, will themselves become significantly weakened, and so this U.S. victory — if that’s what it will be, which isn’t yet clear — would be the biggest turning-point yet towards a world that will be totally controlled by the regime in Washington DC. However, there is reason to believe that such a win by The West still wouldn’t be enough to halt the decline of both America and its empire -- and thus of Israel itself.

Even if Israel isn’t the hand that controls America, it is the infection that has effectively killed the Constitution that America’s Founders collectively wrote and constantly improved by their Amendments to it, and so the American nation has succumbed to that Zionist infection and might die from it, unless America will go to war against it, instead of go to war FOR it. Regime-change in Israel, such as Balmer apparently hopes for, wouldn’t suffice. Zionism is the disease, and it is a deadly disease, and it needs to be eliminated — outlawed throughout the world, and not ONLY in America.

Within the U.S., the top 10 PACS for pro-Israel U.S. Government policies donated $60 million during the 2024 campaign; however, $48 million of that went to the largest, AIPAC, and the largest single donor to AIPAC was the binational American-Israeli Miriam Adelson who donated $5 million to AIPAC. She separately donated $105 million to Trump’s campaign. She urged Trump to bomb Iran. No binational person ought to be allowed to vote in American elections, and anyone who is at that time a citizen of a foreign nation and donates to any Party or candidate ought to be executed as being an enemy foreign agent — a traitor who wanted to help take over this country, steal it from the American people. A person’s vote is always secret, but that person’s having voted is on the public record, and any such person should know ahead of time that doing this will be a capital offense against the nation.

A major Israeli English-language Israeli online newspaper The Times of Israel, which campaigns for Zionists in Israel and elsewhere, especially for Netanyahu and Trump, published a laudatory article on 4 November 2019, “Historian: New evidence shows FDR’s bigotry derailed many Holocaust rescue plans”, about an anti-FDR pro-Zionist Rafael Medoff’s book The Jews Should Keep Quiet: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and the Holocaust, which book twists and distorts what the evidence clearly shows, which was that FDR was anti-Zionist but NOT anti-Jew, and that FDR found that NONE of the heads-of-state in the Arabic countries would tolerate Jews replacing (and/or stealing the property of) any of the current non-Jews in their country. FDR, being intensely anti-imperialistic, agreed with them — but he was NOT (as the Zionists lie to allege, an “anti-Semite” — he was SIMPLY anti-imperialism.

Here is the great but way overpriced and thus ignored 2021 book by Nick Reynold, The 1945–1952 British Government's Opposition to Zionism and the Emergent State of Israel:

p.56:

In March 1944 Roosevelt assured Zionist leaders that the American Government had at no time given its aproval to the White Paper [by Britain waffling on whether Jews should control part of Palestine], and he hoped that ‘full justice will be done to those who seek a Jewish National Home’. As a result of what seemed [to Arab leaders] to be America’s pro-Zionist policy, King Saud of Saudi Arabia wrote to Roosevelt in 1943, ‘Jews have no right to Palestine … God forbid … the allies should at the end of their struggle, crown their victory by evicting the Arabs from their homes.’ …

p.57:

After the Allied Leaders’ Conference at Yalta in February 1945, Roosevelt decided to pay a personal call on Saud on his way home, and invited him onto the cruiser on which he and his entourage were travelling. The two men personally got on very well but Saud was intransigent when it came to American requests concerning Palestine. Roosevelt was unable to make any headway whatsoever.

Two months later Roosevelt died. Just before his death he wrote to Saud:

“Your Majesty will recall that on previous occasions I communicated the attitude of the American Government toward Palestine and made clear our desire that no decision be taken with respect to the basic situation in that country without full consultation with both Arabs and Jews. Your Majesty will also doubtless recall that during our recent conversations I assured you that I would take no action in my capacity of Chief of the Executive Branch of this Government which might prove hostile to the Arab people.”

In the ensuing political struggle between pro-Zionists and pro-Arabs, the latter quoted this letter extensively in order to prove the American Government’s commitment to the Arab side. David Niles, a Jewish assistant in the Department of Minority Affairs [and ardent Zionist Jew], worked with both presidents [FDR & Truman]. Commenting on Roosevelt’s Middle East policy he wrote, ‘There are many serious doubts in my mind that Israel would have come into being if Roosevelt had lived’.

Harry Truman was much clearer in his own mind as to where he stood regarding Judaism and Zionism [note Niles’s equating “Judaism” with “Zionism”]. .. He was not entirely pro-Semitic, and as time went by he began to like Jews less and less, as a result of the incessant pressure that the Jewish Lobby put him under. As with Roosevelt he had little time for the State Department officials and their unyielding pro-Arab position. …

[Regarding Truman, his] assistant, Clark Clifford, wrote about him [Tuman]:

“His own reading of ancient history and the Bible, made him a supporter of the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, even when others who were sympathetic to the plight of the Jews were talking of sending them to places such as Brazil. He did not need to be convinced by Zionists. … I remember him talking about the problems of displaced persons. ‘Everyone who’s been dragged from his country has some place to go back to, but the Jews have no place to go’.”
